Conditions / Still sore in your orthotics

Still sore in your orthotics?

You did the right thing — you got orthotics. But the pain hasn’t settled the way you hoped, and now you’re wondering whether they’re even helping.

It’s a common reason people come to see us, and it’s a fair question to ask. Orthotics are a tool, not a complete answer on their own — and a device that isn’t quite matched to the problem, or to your footwear, often doesn’t get the chance to do its job.

Why it might still be sore

A factory insole with nothing changed is really a guess — the support sits where a template decided, not necessarily where you need it. Sometimes the device is close but needs adjusting; sometimes the footwear it’s going into is working against it; and sometimes the original diagnosis is worth revisiting, because the orthotic is treating one thing while something else is driving the pain.

None of that means you’ve wasted your money. It usually means a second, objective look is the sensible next step — checking how you move, what the device is (and isn’t) doing, and whether a modification, a different device, or a change of plan makes more sense.

It’s worth booking in if you’ve been wearing orthotics for a few weeks and the pain hasn’t eased, if they’re uncomfortable to wear, or if you were never quite sure what they were meant to be doing. Bring the orthotics — and the shoes you wear them in — with you.

How we can help

Orthotics won’t suit every problem, and we’ll say so if that’s the case. The goal isn’t to sell you another device — it’s to work out why you’re still sore and what will actually help.
